Strawberry. Melon. Flora. The Salad.

fruit sal·ad

noun

  1. a mixture of different types of chopped fruit served in syrup or juice.

I was so excited to attend the Farmers Market this weekend at Union Station.. and even happier to find chives. My mind instantly went toward a recipe idea that I could not wait to try.

Viola! The Strawberry Melon Flora Salad.

For this delightful blend, I used only the flower of the chive which has a spicy, earthy taste to it that is unlike the fruit in this salad, but that is what added the appeal.

I was also able to find spearmint at the farmers market, and that is one of the ingredients. A handful in the salad is perfect.

Strawberries are added to the mix, eight to be exact.

Watermelon, another refreshing ingredient, one cup will do.

One cup of cantaloupe melon is a lovely addition to the mix as well.

Layer everything in your favorite bowl after chopping and rinsing ingredients..

... a garnish, but amazingly tasty addition.. the chive flowers! Blend all items together with tongs.

Top with chandoka cheese (a current obsession of mine!) and you're all set.

This morning I happened to delight in this salad for breakfast, but it can be enjoyed for any meal, anytime of the day. You will not be disappointed!
